Single Subject Credential - Student Teaching and University Intern Pathways

Single Subject Credential - Student Teaching and University Intern Options

The Single Subject Preliminary Credential authorizes its holder to teach in departmentalized classes, usually in the middle or high school. Individuals wishing to teach only physical education, art, or music at either the elementary or secondary level are generally also required to hold a Single Subject Preliminary Credential, as well.

Single Subject Credential Program (54 units)

Candidates enrolled in the Student Teaching Pathway are not contracted teachers and are assigned to master teachers in a public school setting for their supervised student teaching field experiences. In addition, student teachers receive support and guidance from a university supervisor.

Candidates enrolled in the University Intern Pathway are contracted teachers and complete their clinical practice hours in their own classroom.  You must be contracted to teach in the same content area that you are pursuing your single subject credential. University interns receive support and guidance from a university supervisor.

PHASE ONE (12 units)

CSUDH LBS students with catalog rights beginning Fall 2016 are exempt from Phase I courses (for credential only). After being accepted to the program, proceed directly to Phase II.
